D. Pace-Mullin
Special Education Facilitator

Before LEAD:
I began my career in education in the North Kansas City School District, working with students as a teacher’s assistant. After earning a Master’s degree in Special Education, I joined the team at Park Hill South High School as a Special Education teacher. During my time at PHS, I supported students in a variety of settings and academic areas. After the birth of our daughter at the end of 2012-2013 school year, I departed the classroom to become a stay-at-home parent. Upon completion of an Educational Specialist degree in Language and Literacy in 2018, I had the opportunity to serve pre-service teachers as a distance learning instructor with UMKC.

Why I'm at LEAD:
I am so excited to join the team at LEAD! The innovative and unique personalized model of learning appeals to me both as an educator and as a parent. I believe we are poised to serve learners best when we first work to establish authentic relationship with our students. The relationships we have the opportunity to build within the model at LEAD, serving as facilitators and mentors, will ultimately lend to positive student outcomes, including a deeper understanding and application of content. I am also very excited to be part of a project-based program, providing students the chance to demonstrate learning in a variety of ways while establishing connections to life outside the classroom.

What I'm most looking forward to:
I can’t wait to see what the students create! I look forward to the opportunity to serve as a guide to learners as they address real world issues and apply content knowledge to design real world solutions.

About me:
My husband Chris and I have an almost 7-year-old daughter, Anna Jo. We also share our home with a cat, Timmy, two dogs, Harry and Cliff, plus a rotating residency of wildlife our daughter brings home (caterpillars, frogs, earthworms, etc.). We love to be outdoors, camp, travel, and cheer on our Kansas City Royals. Last year marked our first season traveling with our travel trailer, allowing us to travel more freely and enjoy the hidden gems of America the Beautiful! Our hope is to visit all of the National Parks before our daughter graduates from high school. I also love to read and hunt for vintage books to add to our heirloom home library.
