Bevin Schmer

B. Schmer
Government & AP Government Facilitator

Before LEAD:
I began my teaching career at Platte County High School, where I taught for 13 years. I taught all the social studies classes including AP U.S. History, AP Psychology, AP Comparative Politics, and AP Government. In my last four years at Platte County I helped create and teach in the Flexible Personalized Learning pathway (FPL) from the 2016-2017 through the 2019-2020 school years. Within this pathway I helped to create blended Social Studies and ELA classes and also helped facilitate our learners in the creation of a learner led FPL Government designed by our learner to make the teachers and learners co-leaders of the FPL pathway.

Why I'm at LEAD:
I am at LEAD because I am passionate about personalized learning. I believe that true personalized learning is the future of education, and frees both educators and learners build deeper relationships and explore what they are passionate about, and what will help prepare them for life.

What I'm most looking forward to:
I am looking forward to everything! I can't wait to meet all my learners and my new team of facilitators. LEAD has already accomplished so much, and I am looking forward to helping the program continue to build!

About me:
I have taught for 13 years, all at Platte County High School. My husband Mike and I live in the KC northland with our daughter Jill, who is 9. I am currently working on an interdisciplinary PhD in Curriculum and Instruction and Political Science and hope to finish all my coursework Spring of 2021 and begin my dissertation work Summer 2021.
