Melanie Farber

Before LEAD:  2 years at PHS teaching English (from ELA 2 to ELA3 Enriched to dual credit Composition and Reading). Before that I spent 15 years teaching in Lincoln, NE where I was gifted facilitator and English Department Chair. And I started my career right down the highway teaching ELA and gifted courses in the old Liberty Junior High School, which at the time, was only 8th and 9th grade.

Why I’m at LEAD: Because I believe it's about time to really make dramatic changes in education. One person can do that in his or her classroom, but to be part of an overall academic program where everyone is on board to making change is exciting and inspiring.

What I’m most looking forward to: This year I'm looking forward to working with even more students. I'm excited for our student body to grow, our teaching staff to grow, and with that, all of the opportunities for clubs, activities, mentoring, etc.

About me:  I am originally from Lincoln, NE and will always be a die-hard Husker fan, but grew up a Royals fan too. My husband's career as a structural engineer brought us back to the KC area where we are now raising our three daughters. We also have two golden retrievers and a cat. We spend our time attending our daughters' many basketball games, soccer games, and swim meets!
