Science Facilitator
Before LEAD:
Before joining the team at LEAD, I worked for many years as an environmental scientist and educator for multiple non-profits and municipalities, both here and in Florida. Most recently, I was able to work with students throughout the metro area to investigate the health of the water in their communities, including teaching students to test, analyze and take steps to improve water quality. I have also worked with a number of large manufacturing facilities in Kansas City to improve their sustainability and environmental efforts.
Why I'm at LEAD:
I love the model that LEAD uses, engaging students in content through authentic, project based learning that allows students to experience real and hands on science. This type of learning is meaningful and inspiring for students, and the skills they develop at LEAD will definitely equip them for their future. I absolutely want to be a part of this type of learning environment where all students can grow and thrive!
What I'm most looking forward to:
I can't wait to get to know and support the group of students entering LEAD this year. I look forward to building relationships, learning about what makes each student unique and how I can help them succeed. I also am excited about building partnerships in the community to bring and create authentic experiences for our students in science.
About me:
My husband, who works at the airport, and I have two sons, Jackson and Cameron, who are 11 & 14. They keep us quite busy with sports and activities (mostly soccer), so you can find me at practices and games most nights and weekends. I love cheering them on and supporting their interests. Our family loves to travel, both in the US and internationally. Hiking and exploring in national parks makes me very happy! I have also been a group fitness instructor for the past 12 years, I used to compete in triathlons, and I played volleyball in college, so you could say I like staying active. In addition, I love to read, learn new things, and do just about anything outside. My favorite sports team is Sporting KC, and I try to attend as many games as I can.
